BLESSED BY DIVIDENDS

First and foremost, Happy Thanksgiving!

As we celebrate the holiday here in the United States, I want to express my gratitude for this incredible journey we embark on together as investors. This year has been rewarding in more ways than one, and I'm excited to share some of the reasons why I'm feeling thankful this year.

The first among these is the mind-blowing market performance we’ve experienced, especially this past month. In this period, my portfolio has jumped nearly 6% to new all-time highs, and I’m sure you’re seeing the same in your portfolio.

With that in mind, this recent surge is a reminder of the double-edged sword of dividend investing.

On one hand, it feels good to see your holdings doing well, but this brings with it a trade-off — your investment dollars won't have the same purchasing power, and your cash-flow return won’t be as great since higher share prices translate to a decline in dividend yields.

Still, be that as it may, I choose to remain thankful as the gains keep rolling in.

Moving on, all this talk of gratitude reminds me that life is made up of unpredictable twists and turns. If you would’ve told me five years ago that my “job” would be making YouTube videos and writing about dividend stock investing (which I had no clue existed at the time), I would’ve thought you were crazy.

Yet, in just a few short years, the YouTube channel has amassed 40,000 subscribers, and this newsletter is now being read by nearly 11,000 dividend investors in just the past year.

I have to pinch myself quite often in disbelief at how things have unfolded, but here we are. I couldn’t be more grateful for the twists and turns in life that brought me to this point, and for the opportunities I’ve been blessed with thanks to dividend investing.

Having said that, I want to express my deepest thanks to each and every one of you for being apart of this incredible adventure with me. Your support, wisdom, and shared enthusiasm for the craft makes every video, every newsletter, and every step forward on the trek to financial freedom all the more meaningful.

Sincerely, thank you once again for everything, and Happy Thanksgiving!

If you feel so inclined, write to me here and let me know what you're thankful for today. I'd love to read about it.

And a big thank you to the 22 readers who responded to last week's newsletter. You all rock, and I loved reading about the last stock you sold out of in your portfolio! 🙌

My Next Dividend Stock & Where My Portfolio Is Going From Here

If you’re a dividend investor then you probably already know this feeling, but I’m getting to the point where I may be ready to add another dividend stock to my portfolio, and that’s what we’re going to be talking about in this video.

I’m going to tell you about the 3 stocks currently sitting on my watchlist, and I’ll also share some thoughts on the current state of my portfolio and where I see things going from here.

CAREFULLY CURATED

📺 How Dividend Investing Can Change Your Life - At this point, I feel like I'm basically just sharing Ari Gutman's "Masters of the Market" series with you every week. But what can I say, these videos are awesome, and the installment linked here features my friend Harris Elliot from the One Penny At A Time podcast, who details his dividend investing journey so far and how it's been a life-changing experience for him. I think you'll really enjoy the conversation.

🎧 Ignore The Noise - As a blanket term, the word "compounding" is thrown around in the investment arena quite often. Yet, few investors are actually patient enough to experience its full potential. Creating real wealth takes time and discipline. This episode of the Dividend Mailbox podcast looks at a couple of examples that expose just how significant your portfolio income can be when you have the discipline to let it grow over time.

📚 Wild Minds - People who think about the world in unique ways that you appreciate almost certainly also think about the world in unique ways that you won’t like. This is easy to overlook, and it causes us to have poor judgment about who we should look up to and what we should expect out of very successful people. In this article, Morgan Housel discusses this in more detail, and explains how we should reconcile this when it comes to the people who inspire us.

SINCE YOU ASKED

"Can you explain negative debt more?"

- @braydenborbely | YouTube

For context, this question was asked here when I was discussing a couple of companies that have negative net debt.

Companies that have little to no debt will often have a negative net debt (or positive net cash) position. A negative amount here indicates that a company has enough cash and cash equivalents on its balance sheet to pay off all of its outstanding debt and will still have excess cash leftover.

While debt can be a useful tool for businesses, a positive net cash position can be looked at as a sign of strong financial health and stability. Personally, I get excited when I see a company with negative net debt, and consider it to be better equipped to meet its financial obligations, even in more challenging economic conditions.

Have a question? Ask me here to see it featured in an upcoming newsletter.
